How to Sort Values from Highest to Lowest in Excel
When conducting tabulation and data analysis, we sometimes need to sort values for a specific purpose. It turns out that sorting values from the highest to the lowest, or vice versa, can easily be done using Excel. We are, of course, already familiar with Excel as a tool that we use in our daily office work, one of which is its advantage in data processing.
In this article, I will show you how to sort values from the highest to the lowest using Excel. This will be very useful for those of you who are conducting research and are currently in the stage of tabulation and data analysis.
Case Study Example
For practice in this article, I will provide a case study using data on the price and sales of 10 products. In this case study, we will sort the products with the highest price down to the lowest price. In addition, we will also sort the sales volume of products, from the highest sales to the lowest sales.
The data that has been collected and entered into Excel can be seen in the table below:

How to Sort Values in Excel
Based on our objective, we need to sort product prices and sales volume from the highest to the lowest value. In this article, I will demonstrate how to do it using Excel.
The first step you need to do is make sure that you have already entered the data into Excel, as I have shown in the table above. Once you have ensured that the data is correctly entered, the next step is to use the filter menu in Excel.
To activate it, you need to sort labels which include the product, price, and sales columns. Next, click the Data ribbon, then click the Filter menu. After that, you will see a dropdown arrow on each column label. When you click it, options will appear as shown in the image below:

Based on the image above, let’s start by sorting the variable “price” from highest to lowest. Click the dropdown arrow on the price variable, then select Sort Largest to Smallest. After clicking, the data will automatically be sorted from the highest to the lowest value, as shown in the figure below:

From the image above, we can see that the highest price is for product I, while the lowest price is for product A. Next, using the same steps, we sort the “sales” variable. After clicking the dropdown menu on the sales variable, choose Sort Largest to Smallest. The result will be as follows:

From the image above, we can see that the product with the highest sales is product C, and the product with the lowest sales is product E.
